Month 3 to 4: Finding Purpose and Passion in Veganism

As I transition from the third to the fourth month of my vegan journey, the transformation I’ve experienced—both physically and mentally—has been profound. Not only has my diet change become a cornerstone of my daily routine, but it has also ignited a passion and purpose in my life that resonates deeply with who I am and aspire to be.

Celebrating Health Milestones

In terms of health, the benefits of my plant-based diet have been nothing short of remarkable. I’ve now lost a total of 27 pounds, bringing me down to 173 lbs. Even more encouraging is the significant improvement in my cholesterol levels; my LDL has dropped another 15 points this month alone. It’s thrilling to think that by my next blood draw, I might finally reach a normal LDL cholesterol level. This journey has not only been about weight loss but about enhancing my overall health and vitality, and every new milestone fuels my commitment even more.

Veganism: A Lifestyle That’s Second Nature

What started as a diet change has seamlessly morphed into a lifestyle. Eating vegan has become effortless, and advocating for the vegan philosophy feels like second nature. Whether I’m consuming the latest vegan literature or tuning into a new YouTube channel, I’m constantly learning and growing within the community. My husband affectionately calls me “Activist Barbie,” a nickname that reflects my newfound zeal. His observation that he has never seen me so passionate about something so significant in all our years together fills me with pride and joy.

Activism and Community Engagement

This month has been particularly exciting as I’ve taken my advocacy beyond personal and family circles to the broader public sphere. I’ve written letters to senators and our local mayor, advocating for not just veganism but also broader issues like healthy eating, food security, and the environmental impact of agricultural practices such as the use of biosolid fertilizers. My activism is driven by a desire to effect meaningful change in our state and community, leveraging my voice to foster a healthier, more sustainable world.

Volunteering and Connecting with Like-Minded Souls

A highlight of this month was volunteering at an animal sanctuary in Warm Springs. There, I met a vibrant group of activists and vegans from Georgia, each sharing stories, challenges, and successes. This experience was not just about giving back but also about connecting with others who share my values and vision. It reinforced my belief that I’ve finally found my calling—this community, these people, this cause—it’s what I’ve been searching for all my life.

Reflections on Finding My Purpose

Looking back over the past four months, I see a journey that has led me to discover not just a new way of eating, but a profound sense of purpose. Veganism has taught me the power of compassionate living and shown me how individual choices can resonate across communities and ecosystems. I’ve realized that this journey is about much more than personal health—it’s about contributing to a cause greater than myself.

As I continue on this path, I am eager to see what the future holds. With each new day, recipe, and conversation, I am more entrenched in this lifestyle, ready to learn, share, and advocate for a kinder, healthier world. My journey into veganism has been transformative, and I am excited to see where it leads, with my heart and mind open to all the possibilities that lie ahead.

I heard this quote at my daughter’s college graduation this week, just remember when you feel like you’re going under, “They tried to bury us but they didn’t know we were seeds.” We can rise from the dirt and make something beautiful. We are destined for great things. With some nourishment, love and care, great things will come!
